LMF/CTU Successfully Executes Challenging Helicopter Transport

For the past decade, the Chengdu office of Leader Mutual Freight Systems (LMF/CTU) has distinguished itself by providing the best transport services in the southwest region of China and achieving the highest levels of customer satisfaction. The LMF/CTU team has taken on many projects of all sizes, but in June 2016, it received its biggest challenge to date: Xiangyun General Aviation Corporation, also known as Xiangyun G.A., sent out a request for proposal (RFP) to all freight forwarders in the area to transport a BHR helicopter from TN37620 in the United States to Dangcheng Yading Airport in Sichuan. Considering the size, weight, and worth of a helicopter, this would be an unprecedentedly complex task. LMF/CTU immediately formed a task force dedicated to respond to this RFP. This team gathered notes and advice from other LMF branches that had successfully transported helicopters. After numerous consultations with the LMF executive team, conversations with subject matter experts in the high tech and aviation industries, and countless drafts and edits, LMF/CTU won the business easily with a stellar proposal that overshadowed the other bidders.

The helicopter transport team soon faced its first problem: The customer and the supplier, due to poor communication, were locked in a disagreement. The supplier refused to provide materials for packing, unloading, and stabilizing the helicopter during transport. Without this equipment, the project could not move forward, and Xiangyun G.A.’s plans to display the helicopter during the Exhibition were at risk of being dashed. The LMF/CTU team immediately reached out to colleagues at LMF/DFW, who were able to successfully persuade the supplier to agree to move forward with the project.

A second issue soon presented itself. Because a helicopter is so intricate and expensive, the shipping company was unwilling to risk damaging the helicopter by offering inland transportation. LMF chief executive officer Allen Cheng personally stepped in by interviewing many trucking companies, then hand-picking the one with the most expertise to transport the helicopter to the dock.

The LMF/CTU helicopter transport team was not surprised when yet another obstacle arose. Because Xiangyun G.A. wanted to display the helicopter at the Chengdu Business Jet Parking Bay Joint Operation Summit Conference on September 19, 2016, Xiangyun G.A. requested that the helicopter be transported to Yantian dock, which would put it closer to the final destination, instead of the originally planned Shekou dock. To satisfy this request, LMF/CTU communicated tirelessly with the US-based shipping company and was able to change the destination of the vessel.

After the ship with the helicopter aboard was on its way, the client informed LMF/CTU that it once again wished to change the final destination. Now, the helicopter was to be transported to Shuangliu Chengdu, rather than Dangcheng. Once again, the LMF/CTU team worked around the clock to secure a truck that would take the helicopter to its final destination.

At last, after all the hard work, input from the LMF executive team, and help from colleagues around the world, LMF/CTU delivered the helicopter to its destination two weeks ahead of schedule. This incredibly complex door-to-door delivery, with all its challenges, was executed with perfection.

LMF/CTU would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to our colleagues and partners for your encouragement, support, and expertise during the countless obstacles in this project. Together, we can achieve greatness. We are looking forward to our next challenge!
